Solar and Battery Storage at HL Pharma: Reducing Grid Energy Use Without Compromising Control
Sustainability in pharmaceutical storage matters only if it is achieved without compromising product integrity, security, or compliance. Medicines must remain within specification and move through controlled, documented processes from receipt to dispatch.
Energy Independence Supporting Temperature Control
HL Pharma has installed on-site solar generation and battery storage at our Melbourne facility. As a provider of temperature-controlled pharmaceutical storage and distribution, we focus on sustainability only where it strengthens operational resilience and control. A temperature-controlled depot uses meaningful energy every day. Cold rooms, Controlled Room Temperature areas, continuous monitoring, alarm systems, security infrastructure and validated equipment all rely on stable power.
Solar generation helps displace grid electricity during daylight hours. Battery storage enables energy to be stored for later use, helping shift part of our electricity consumption away from peak periods. This is an improvement to energy sourcing, not a change to our control framework. Storage conditions, monitoring, security, and documented processes are governed by our established quality and governance systems.
This installation also sits alongside our established backup generator arrangements that support business continuity for site operations, including critical temperature-controlled infrastructure and security systems.
Sustainability Integration Across the Supply Chain
Many sponsors, manufacturers, hospitals and pharmacies now have corporate responsibility and sustainability targets that extend across supply chain partners and are reflected in procurement and reporting requirements. HL Pharma’s solar and battery installation supports these objectives by reducing the operational energy footprint associated with temperature-controlled storage, while maintaining the controlled environment and governance expectations our clients require. We can provide relevant information to support supplier onboarding, tenders, client questionnaires, or sustainability reporting, alongside our broader quality and governance framework.
